What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Comments

We do not collect comment data on our web site as yet, but should we decide to do so at some point in the future, we will revise this portion of our privacy policy to reflect that change.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Contact forms

If you fill out and submit one of our forms (for example, to apply for work or to book a tour), we retain the form data offline in our records until our dealings with you have been completed OR as the applicable laws of the province of Ontario or the country of Canada dictate, whichever is earlier.

Cookies

We currently do not set or use cookies from this site.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles or social media posts on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These other websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website. Please refer to the policies of the site where any embedded links take you for clarification.

Analytics

At this time our Analytics are employed around our emailing list only, and currently provide only the most basic list segmentation around general geographical areas of Canada based upon the cities associated with the Canadian postal code. Addresses in our mailing list outside of Canada are excluded from analytical operations beyond a basic count of foreign visitors.

Who we share your data with and how long we retain your data

At this time we do not collect data via any means other than through our forms collection. As stated above, we retain the form data offline in our records until our dealings with you have been completed, until you request us to delete your data (see also below), OR as the applicable laws of the province of Ontario or the country of Canada dictate, whichever is earlier.

What rights you have over your data

If you have established an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where we send your data

Data collected through our forms applications is sent to our corporate computers for evaluation and response or added to our mailing list software, which helps us manage our mailings and data collection in compliance with the Canadian Anti-Spam Legislation and European General Data Protection Regulation.

Your contact information

Contact information that you provide to us is acquired and managed according to Canadian Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) and European General Data Protection Regulation (EGDPR) as well as being maintained in compliance with Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), a Canadian law (the Act) relating to data privacy. It governs how private sector organizations collect, use and disclose personal information in the course of commercial business.

How we protect your data

We are proud to operate under the stringent laws surrounding personal data in Canada, and for that reason, use web servers based on Canadian soil, where they are also governed by laws such as CASL, PIPEDA, and EGDPR where-ever applicable.  Our mailing list software is owned and operated by a commercial company in the United States of America, and the data for that list is maintained on one of their servers in the eastern United States.

What third parties we receive data from

We do not currently employ third party data collection agencies, relying on our own opt-in lists and sign up forms on our own web site to collect visitor data.
